I’m Izzy, the new Events Intern at Polar, acting as your new commentator providing the monthly rundown of all things Polar throughout the summer. I’ll be around all season to assist the team, so if you see me around don’t hesitate to give me a wave or ask me any questions - I don’t bite!
In the updates we will also be including some behind the scenes office action with a couple of cheeky competitions thrown in; so keep an eye out! As well as this, we’ll be adding in a few of the things we’ve been loving here at HQ and from you guys at events in the 'Polar Picks’ section and some awesome industry news to keep you in the know about any recent developments in the bar and events world.
(Spoiler Alert! To celebrate our first Polar Blog there is a surprise at the bottom 😉 🐻)

May Highlights

This May has been a steady month here at Polar HQ, providing us with a bit of downtime to prepare for the busy summer ahead. We had a great time at the Army vs Navy game and the London Sevens; seeing everyone dressed up at these events is always good people watching.  We saw out the month with a very busy Gallagher Premiership Final at Twickenham as well as our first Cricket World Cup event in Nottingham!

The Cricket World Cup tour began with a whopping four-day run in Nottingham. We saw some rain, shine and of course, plenty of pints and a healthy serving of G&T’s as well as lots of ID’s as we are strong upholders of the challenge 25 law, of course. It was our first Cricket World Cup Fan Zone and in general it was a great success. With this, we are very excited to move onto Taunton in Somerset followed up by Southampton, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and Durham over the coming month. If you are in any of these cities, come on down and enjoy a pint with us - we'd love to see you!

Our Nottingham Polar Bears looking like they had the best day at work ever... Spoiler alert .. They totally did.

The Upcoming Month:

The upcoming season at Polar is one that the wild Polar Bear looks forward to most; that’s right kids, Formula One is upon us and the sun is scheduled to be OUT, so bring your suncream. I suggest SPF 50. I am not joking. You will need it.

Other exciting events are also coming such as Metallica, Madness and Nile Rogers concerts this June, where we will be serving up the booze AND the boogie.

To top it all off we'll be continuing our tour of Britain as the Official Cricket World Cup bar provider in its Fanzones, hitting the road for Cricket World Cup, where we will be going up and down the country to serve the cracking beers and the best service to England’s Cricket Fans.

We are very excited to meet all our new Polar Bears joining the team for these special events!

Industry Faves:

This month saw us dive headfirst into the start of the festival season with events such as We Are Fstvl, BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend and Primavera Sound in Barcelona kicking things off. With this, Glastonbury announced their plan to ban all single-use plastic at the festival! As Polar are no strangers to the Eco-Cup movement we are solid supporters of the effort to be more green (and saving the turtles). Polar always tries to do its bit, having made the switch from plastic straws to paper on our beautiful Gin Bars as well as trying our best to recycle whenever we can and of course, our ongoing commitment to explaining the eco-cup deposit system as thoroughly as possible to our customers. (Nothing like being told you’ve overcharged and then going into the cup spiel).

Polar Picks:

In this section, we office dwellers will be telling you about our favourites of the month, be that our top survival kit for festival season or a new drink we’ve discovered. This month, as it is my first month here in the Polar office and my first diary entry, it'll be lil' ol' me updating you on what's been the top of my list.

On the topic of festivals, I have loved watching the live streams of the BBC Big Weekend performances on iPlayer, as I am now far too busy and important (I wish, ha ha) to actually go. My favourite was The 1975's set, as for someone who has been listening to them since they first came on the scene, I really appreciated the songs they included from past albums in the set and plus, who doesn't love a crowd pleaser and yes, I did cry when my favourite song was played.

Another one of my favourites has been the reusable coffee cup I bought earlier on in the month. The brand is 'Stojo' and it collapses into a small circle when you're finished with it, so it is easy to take around with you! As well as this, loads of coffee shops have started giving money off on your coffee each time you use your own cup - so it basically pays for itself!

TO CELEBRATE THE LAUNCH OF THE NEW POLAR DIARIES AS WELL AS OUR NEW ADVENTURES INTO THE CRICKET WORLD CUP - YOU COULD BE IN FOR A CHANCE TO WIN A BIRA CRICKET WORLD CUP T-SHIRT!!!

All you have to do is guess how many pints of Bira lager we sold this past weekend at the Cricket World Cup Fanzone in Nottingham - the closest answer wins! Good luck! To enter you must be following Polar Bars and Events on LinkedIn and then fill out the form below. The winner will be announced in next months blog, so make sure to come back to see if you are the lucky duck!
